Following the acquisition of the 3M Library Systems Division by Bibliotheca in June 2016, Softlink Central Europe was appointed as the exclusive distributor for Bibliotheca in Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Moldova, effective January 1, 2017.
Technical assistance contracts for the Alice library system will no longer be renewed starting January 1, 2017. Support for Alice systems that are still in use will only be provided upon request for intervention.
Softlink Central Europe was present as the main sponsor at the National Conference of the Librarians' Association of Romania (ABR). The event took place in Timișoara from September 7–9, 2016, and brought together over 300 librarians and specialists in information and documentation science for a professional meeting dedicated to all types of libraries.
Ease of access to information, the speed with which materials are borrowed and returned, collection security, and the efficiency and availability of librarians are some of the main ingredients of a modern library service.
In addition to the established standards in the field of library automation systems that enable integration and interoperability with other systems (e.g., SIP2 for integration with RFID systems, Z39.50 for transferring bibliographic records from other systems and rapid cataloging, etc.), the new versions of the Liberty and Oliver systems can now be installed in either Concordance or SQL versions. This new feature significantly increases the system's flexibility, allowing the user to choose the optimal variant based on their own priorities (interface customization, integration with other systems—e.g., e-learning systems, etc.).
